Door and Hardware Nerds
Google’s definition of “nerd” is a single-minded expert in a particular technical field. Being in the door and hardware industry, many of us qualify for this label of door and hardware nerd. I prefer Google’s definition of nerd in the verb form: engage in or discuss a technical field obsessively or with great attention to detail. In short – door and hardware nerding out.
This blog is a good way to nerd out on door openings, but sometimes we long for more dynamic content. Luckily, there is a new YouTube channel that can fulfill those moments when reading a few technical paragraphs just doesn’t quite scratch the itch. Check out this link to the Door Hardware Nerds channel.
Still in its infancy, the channel just launched about three months ago, but already has a decent amount of subscribers and a record of consistently uploading new videos with a myriad of topics related to – you guessed it – all things doors and hardware. The videos range in duration from 2 – 10 minutes, and so far revolve around a handful of themes. Some are interviews of industry experts focusing in on particular products, fields or solutions. If you really want to get nerdy and are into building codes, be sure and check out the Code Corner videos with Katie Flower. Mia Merrel is the primary host when it comes to “meeting” a new product, or unboxing the product and seeing what’s inside. Or if you’re just looking for some fun, watch the Unhinged videos that show real life scenarios that just should not exist.
So next time you need a short break from deciphering door schedules or searching for the correct hardware template – and which functions apply, open up a new tab in your browser and watch a short video. It will be just what you need to refocus, while keeping your mind on the subject at hand. Here are a few options hyperlinked to get you started:
